A guide containing several communication strategies from different museums from Seeding Action (Association of Science and Technology Centers).
Shifting from our current culture of widespread disengagement with planetary health challenges to one characterized by hope and action requires strategic communication. Informal learning and cultural organizations have unique opportunities to share messages with their audiences that build understanding, skills, community, and motivation for public participation in a host of solutions.
This guide describes a high-level strategy for approaching planetary health communications. It is designed to provide new ideas that can inform exhibits, programs, marketing, and beyond. The recommendations within can be applied to a range of topics, such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution, and can be adapted for various settings and audiences. The guide can be used to design new messaging, reflect on or update existing content, or to design a broader communication strategy.
In short, the guide is written for anyone who communicates in any medium and desires to contribute to a culture of hope and action for planetary health.
The guide presents considerations for four components in communication strategy: context, goals, frames and inviting action.
